5 Tips For Keeping Your AC Bills Down

The Arizona summer heat is upon us and our air conditioners are working overtime. I think it is safe to say that no one enjoys looking at their electricity bill this time of year. Here are a few tips for keeping your air conditioning bills down.

Plant trees and large bushes in front of windows. They will help shade the home and lower cooling costs.

Run your clothes dryer in the evening hours. Dryers take a lot of electricity and heat up the house. Another option is a clothes line. On an Arizona summer day, clothes will dry in 15 minutes or less!

Consider investing in a newer cooling unit. Units have different SEER Ratings (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio). The higher the SEER rating, the more efficient the unit. A unit with a SEER rating of 16 or more could save you about $415 a year over a unit with a SEER rating of 10.

Change the filters of your air conditioner every month. This will keep the air flowing and maintain peak efficiency.

If you have a central air conditioner, turn ON the fan. This will circulate air continuously through your home and allow you to set your thermostat at a higher summer temperature.
